REGIONAL FINAL – PRIZE LIST
1st: $300 worth of vouchers from MusicWorks and the chance to be selected as one of the Top6 to perform at the Smokefree Pacifica Beats National Final in Rotorua on Saturday 25 September, 2010.

THE PAY OFF - AWARDS & PRIZES – DESCRIPTIONS
SMOKEFREE PRIZES!!
Smokefree Mana Wahine Award
Formerly known as the Smokefree Award for Women's Musicianship, this prize has been part of the competition since 1998. All female musicians entering the competition are automatically eligible and the regional awards will be judged at the regional events. Regional winners will receive $150 and are eligible for the national prize should their band make it to the Top6. At the National Final, the prize for the Smokefree Mana Wahine Award is $1000.
Smokefree Best Vocals Award
The Smokefree Best Vocals Award aims to encourage bands to work at improving the quality and consistency of their vocals. It will be awarded to an individual or group at each regional final and will be judged on control, pitching, distinctiveness and lyric delivery. The prize at each regional is $150 and at the National Final, the winner(s) will receive $500 as well as a professional mentoring workshop.
YPT PRIZES!!
YPT Stage Image Award
A group’s stage image can mean the difference between winning and losing the competition. Native Productions offers $100 at every regional and $500 at the National Final to the group or individual, which demonstrates the most effective stage presence during their performance.
YPT Native Language Award
This award is back up for grabs and as long as your song has at least 50% Native language content you’re in with a chance to win. YPT is offering $100 at each regional final and $500 at the National Final.
APRA BEST SONG AWARD
Songwriters – This Is For You
The APRA Best Song Award acknowledges the great songs being written by individuals and groups. You’ll need to fill in a lyric sheet at your regional event and you may also provide a written explanation of your song if you wish. This award is given to the individual or group who demonstrates ‘memorable edge’ at each event. Regional winners will receive $150 and the best song nationally will win $500 and a mentoring workshop. The national winner will be announced at the National Final.
Writing songs takes talent, effort and commitment. When you write a song, you own it and this ownership is called ‘copyright’. New Zealand’s Copyright Act protects you and your songs and confirms that as a songwriter, you are entitled to royalties when your songs are performed or broadcast.

MAINZ Musicianship Award
This prize is awarded to the most outstanding musician at each Regional Final. Each Regional Musicianship Award winner then becomes eligible for the MAINZ Scholarship, worth $4800. This will be awarded to one Regional Award winner based on written material submitted by them.
The MAINZ Scholarship consists of a years full tuition fees for one of the following MAINZ Certificate programmes; Contemporary Music Performance, Live Sound and Event Production, Audio Engineering and Music Production, or Foundation Sound and Music. The Scholarship must be redeemed in either 2010 or 2011 and is available at both the MAINZ campuses in Auckland and Christchurch. The MAINZ Scholarship winner will be announced at the National Final.
NZ ON AIR – 1st PRIZE SPONSORS
