THE RULES
1. All contestants must be enrolled in and attend ‘school’ for at least 16 hours a week. School means secondary, area, intermediate, primary, correspondence or alternative education provider.
2. You must be no older than 19 years of age on 31 May 2010. You may be asked to supply proof of eligibility.
3. All students 16 years and over are required to sign the entry form or, if they are under 16 years of age, must have the signature of their parent or guardian on the entry form, giving consent to us to release contestant information and images to media and sponsors.
4. Any entrant defacing or destroying Smokefree Pacifica Beats property or property/venues used by the Smokefree Pacifica Beats crew will be disqualified and held accountable for damages. This includes PA equipment, recording studios, heats and final venues, accommodation venues, as well as any place used for photo shoots or interviews (e.g. radio stations etc.)
5. At Smokefree Pacifica Beats you are representing your ‘school’. It is important that you adhere to your school’s policies regarding behaviour in public. If in doubt, seek the guidance of your teachers.
6. Each student may ONLY enter in ONE band in Smokefree Pacifica Beats.
7. Performances at the regional finals must not exceed seven minutes in duration. All songs must be original compositions and must meet the cultural criteria.
8. Each group is limited to one pre-programmed part, as well as a drum track.
9. By entering this competition, all entrants are making a declaration of their smokefree status and will be required to formalise this at the heats (see details below).
10. The use or possession of alcohol, cigarettes or illegal drugs by any group member at any Smokefree Pacifica Beats event will result in the instant disqualification of their entire group.
11. Contestants are required to gain approval from the organisers to use props, clothing or equipment bearing product branding of products other than those of our sponsors. Approval will not be withheld unless the organisers believe the security of the event sponsorship is at risk. This does not apply to the normal name branding appearing on musical instruments. If in doubt, please ask!
12. All prizes must be claimed within 12 months of the 2010 National Final event.
13. By virtue of entry, the entrant agrees to hold the ‘Smokefree Pacifica Beats’ event and its agents indemnified against any breach or infringement of copyright or rights held by any third party/parties and the entrant undertakes to observe all such rights statutory or otherwise.
14. By virtue of entry, the entrant agrees to hold the ‘Smokefree Pacifica Beats’ event and its agents indemnified against any claim or liability for loss or accident resulting from any individual’s involvement in the Smokefree Pacifica Beats event.
15. Smokefree Pacifica Beats does not condone censorship. Smokefree Pacifica Beats supports the NZ Music Industry and therefore urges entrants to consider the commercial appeal of the material they write. While not wishing to constrain the creative process of songwriters, we would like to point out that sexually-explicit lyrics, or lyrics that may offend could lack commercial potential and therefore may not suit this competition. Judges for this event are selected from within the NZ Music Industry. Entrants are urged to consider this point carefully when writing original material or choosing cover songs.
16. The judges’ decisions will be final and no correspondence or discussion can be entered into regarding them.
SMOKEFREE & DRUGFREE DECLARATION
Smokefree supports Smokefree Pacifica Beats in order to give emerging musicians the chance to play their tunes to people around the country. Smokefree Pacifica Beats groups are the essence of the event and we ask that you respect the smokefree status of the event.
As an entrant, I understand that for interviews, heats, regional finals, the National Final, press conferences and TV or radio appearances, it is a requirement for me be smokefree and drugfree. If I, or any of my group members, fail to comply with this declaration, it will result in the group’s immediate exclusion from all parts of this event.
